NDP Virtual Enterprise Architecture (NVEATM)

The NDP Virtual Enterprise Architecture (NVEA) is a turn-key private cloud solution featuring integrated virtualization, provisioning, configuration management, identity management, and monitoring for enterprises in the defense, intelligence, civil, and commercial sectors.

Why NVEA?

Several factors have complicated the development and management of cloud environments for small- to mid-size enterprises:

  • Mission-critical applications may inhibit full deployment to a public cloud, resulting in a complex, hybrid (private/public) configuration.
  • Agile development methods require DevOps capability and rigorous environment management.
  • The need to rapidly deploy applications on frequent intervals must be balanced with the ever-growing cybersecurity threat.
  • Smaller enterprises do not have the staff or budget to build a private cloud from scratch.

NVEA Benefits

The NVEA solution serves the needs of these enterprises by offering a secure, integrated infrastructure that offers the agility of public clouds with the security of private. Key NVEA benefits include:

  • Rigorous configuration management between development, test, and operational environments.
  • Scalability for future mission requirements.
  • Simplified administration allows complete nodes built from scratch with a single click. Robust system monitoring enables complete situational awareness.
  • Secure. As part of the node build profile all relevant security policies are applied, guaranteeing cyber compliance out of the box.
  • Greater TCO. NVEA enables the consolidation of stove piped, standalone infrastructure onto a single, managed platform.
  • Backup and recovery. Secure re-provisioning of hosts using “slick recovery and Data Persistence” for NVEA (DeeP), allowing systems to be destructively rebuilt while preserving critical data in RAM during the formatting process.

Features and Capabilities

The NVEA solution includes all the components for your infrastructure environment needs:

  • Virtualized applications: The enterprise hypervisor for hosted applications.
  • Virtualized storage: The iSCSI storage platform based on NexentaOS.
  • Infrastructure services: The core, lightweight hypervisor for NVEA services. NVEA provides a number of private cloud services:
    • Configuration Management: The Chef host, DNS server, and bootstrap infrastructure. Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and VMware Update Manager (VUM) “slick recovery and Data Persistence” for NVEA (DeeP).
    • Identity Management: The LDAP server used for authentication. Can also host NTP and DNS. The Active Directory server used for Windows and RADIUS authentication.
    • Security and Logging: The Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana server used for log aggregation and analysis. Has an optional Syslog mode for receipt of logs from non-ELK clients such as VMware, Windows, and network devices.
    • System Monitoring: Comprehensive status reporting across all devices using Sensu.
    • Documentation: A web server that by default hosts all the NVEA documentation but can be extended to meet site needs.

Additional options and support include:

  • Host-based Security System (HBSS): NVEA has support to host and be managed by HBSS.
  • Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS): NVEA has support to host and be scanned by ACAS.
  • VMware vSphere Virtual SAN (VSAN): Hyper-converged storage utilizing virtualized storage across VMware hosts.

All services are virtually turn-key to rapidly build a new environment while supporting future update streams for disconnected clients.
